Abdominoplasty – Tummy Tuck
Introduction
The tummy tuck operation eliminates excess skin and fat from the abdomen. The muscles of the abdominal wall can be tightened at the same.
With the advent of liposuction most surgeons have this technique in conjunction with the standard ‘tummy tuck’ procedure in suitable cases as the final result is superior.
Tummy tucks are performed in those patients whose abdomens have stretched and sagged after weight loss and pregnancy. It must be stressed that this is not a procedure designed to shed large amounts of weight from the patient. In fact there will hardly be any appreciable weight loss in any patient.
Patients who have lost massive amounts of weight often find an apron of skin hanging from the abdomen. They often find that due to the folds of the skin, chafing and rashes are difficult to control. Also clothing is difficult to fit and not flattering. |
